Taylortown Police Department History
In 1988 Taylortown became an incorporated town and Joe Deadman was appointed Chief of Police.  As the only officer Deadman patrolled the streets of Taylortown and helped established a law enforcement presents.  After Deadman left Taylortown, Reggie Williams became the chief and continued to provide the community with a law enforcement presents.   After Chief R. Williams moved on, Homer Burkley was appointed Chief, and became the lone officer with the town.  The department received a grant under the Federal Governments COPS FAST PROGRAM and was able to hire and additional officer.  Under Burkley, Tamara Thompson joined the force and has been a constant presents ever since. The department has continued to expand and modernize.

After Chief Burkley left the department, Chief Henry Shamburger was appointed chief.  Shamburger was the first chief to start a K-9 unit to help battle the drug traffic. Chief Shamburger left in 2002; the Town Council then hired Chief Timothy Blakeley who served until his departure in 2007.

In 2007 the Town Council appointed Chief Damon D. Williams who is the youngest Chief of Police to serve Taylortown. Under Chief Williams, the department has taken an aggressive attack on crime. Williams has increased the number of officers to provide better coverage for the citizens of Taylortown.  Under Williams’s leadership, Taylortown now has more officers patrolling the street than ever before.  Chief Williams has also reorganized the department, and created two divisions. The detective division was created to better investigate cases in Taylortown.  The patrol division under the leadership of Corporal Thompson and Sergeant
Scott focuses on the prevention of crime in the community.
Officers are now provided the best equipment on the market such as Tasers X26.  Chief Williams has instituted a new community policing program, summer internship program and a youth against gang’s committee.  With the pro-active efforts of the department, calls for service have been dramatically decreased.

The Taylortown Police Department has a wonderful working relationship with the community and the surrounding Police Departments. The department is expected to grow in the next couple of years as the town expands.
